Overview of Research

The following links are to downloadable versions of 4 data files for the Picture Norming Project.  Files in Excel (.xls) format contain Chinese characters encoded using NJ Star software, and may not work properly with other Chinese TrueType Fonts.  Either of the following can be used: Chinese Auto-Simplified or Chinese Big5 Simplified.

Use of Microsoft Internet Explorer is recommended for the HTML files.

  1. Pictnorm1

Main dependent measures (familiarity, H - value, name agreement percentage, concept agreement percentage), and name responses included in name agreement and concept agreement percentages for 260 Snodgrass & Vanderwart (1980) pictures, for each cultural by age group

  1. Pictnorm2

Raw frequency counts of naming errors and all dominant and non-dominant name responses for 260 Snodgrass & Vanderwart (1980) pictures, for each cultural by age group

  1. Pictnorm3

Comparisons of picture norming data for younger American adults from Yoon et al. (2004) and Snodgrass & Vanderwart (1980)

  1. Cross-Study Comparisons

Proportions for name and concept agreement, along with two-sample tests of proportional differences, for four studies [UM = Yoon et al. (2004); Bates = Bates et al. (2003) and the International Picture Naming Project; SY = Snodgrass & Yuditsky (1996); SV = Snodgrass & Vanderwart (1980)]).

The following two sheets contain raw proportions for name and concept agreement for four studies (as below), along with two-sample tests of proportional differences.

Tests appear in blocks of ten, for each of the ten sets of numbers below, keyed to two picture numbering systems (Snodgrass and Vanderwart's original, and that of IPNP / Bates et al.)
